Ingredients to make Easy Blueberry Sauce:

This blueberry sauce uses just 5 simple ingredients, but the flavor is anything but basic!

  • Blueberries: Fresh or frozen both work perfectly. These burst with flavor as they cook down.
  • Sugar: Just enough to sweeten and balance the tang from the lemon.
  • Cornstarch: Helps thicken the sauce to a luscious, spoonable texture.
  • Lemon Juice: Adds brightness and complements the sweetness of the berries.
  • Vanilla Extract: A splash of vanilla ties everything together with warmth and depth. This is my favorite vanilla extract.

Tips for making delicious Blueberry Sauce:

  1. Don’t rush the cooking time. Be patient and let the blueberries cook long enough to fully release their juices.
  2. Medium heat is best. You’ll want to stir constantly after adding the sugar and cornstarch to avoid the sauce burning at the bottom. It also helps the sauce thicken smoothly without clumping.
  3. Avoid smashing the blueberries as you stir. You’ll want a few entire blueberries remaining for extra texture and flavor. If you want a smoother sauce, go for it! You can even use an immersion blender or a smasher for a runnier sauce.
  4. Adjust sweetness to your liking! If you prefer a less sweet sauce, reduce the sugar – not too much, or it will affect texture-  or add more lemon juice or lemon zest for an extra tangy kick.
  5. Store it properly. Once cooled, transfer the sauce to an airtight jar and refrigerate. It will keep fresh for up to a week.
  6. If the sauce thickened too much to your liking, add water 1 tablespoon at a time.
